I wish we snagged Guild Wars 2 when the game first hit shelves because we sadly don’t have $60 each for the game and probably won’t for a while. (The only thing I dislike about gaming is the price involved.) Guild Wars 2 represents one of the top fantasy game titles in my honest opinion. How the game will play out as a MMORPG may be different, but I rarely go by review and instead go with my own opinion because you’ll either find people saying: I LOVE IT or I HATE IT and rarely is there a middle ground.

Here are a few tidbits about the game that I am so excited about:

  • Race selector. Back in the original Guild Wars there was only one race: human. Now you have Human, Norn, Sylvari, Charr and Asura. Most likely I’ll roll a Human as my main and a Sylvari as a second main. But that may change later! Sylvari interest me a great deal, with their natural state and unique lore.
  • Crafting. Heck, yeah! Again, in the original Guild Wars, crafting didn’t exist. I love crafting in MMOs as there is something about leveling up your selected skill that I enjoy a great deal. Plus, more often than not, what you craft is better than what you buy or find while questing. Hopefully that is true with Guild Wars 2, we’ll see!
  • Personal Story. I’m a bit spoiled with my current favorite MMO which is Star Wars: The Old Republic because everything you do is part of your story. As a former and – okay – current WoW player, I love questing and leveling my character and building her back story. But games that literally let you pick and choose and follow your own path are extremely fun and exciting. More often than not, I’ll play that sort of game as two separate games. Take SW:TOR for example… My character is a Smuggler. She’s my first Smuggler, so her story is new and refreshing. I play that part as a RPG. But I don’t let her story influence my actual RP unless I… pick and choose. Her companion Corso doesn’t have anything to do with her RP, her ship is detailed in my own mind so that when people enter I can describe what they see instead of what is in the game. It’s actually like getting two games in one, so I’m pretty excited.
  • Day and Night. When Jen and I went from GW to WoW, we were so shocked to see the day and night cycle and it’s something we’ve come to love. It doesn’t make or break a game, as SW:TOR doesn’t have a cycle and that’s a mini disappointment but the game isn’t a bust. The difference with GW though, is that certain things happen in the day and vice versa. Now THAT is intriguing.
  • Player Home Instance. Almost every MMO has promised player housing. Guild Wars had Guild Halls which Jen and I loved playing around in, WoW doesn’t have anything but has promised, in SW:TOR you have your ship with more promised features and in Guild Wars 2, housing has been promised but for right now we have Player Home Instances. I’ll copy this from the Guild Wars 2 Wiki as it’ll describe what these are better than I can: ” The home instance is an instanced area in each character’s home city which evolves as they progress through the world. A character’s home instance will change based on their progress and actions in their personal storyline. For example, character actions could determine the presence or absence of non-player characters, special merchants or even buildings. Players can invite others to visit their home instance. If a character visits a home instance in a city other than their home city (for example, a charr visiting Salma District), they will see a basic version of the district without any story-related changes.
  • Professions (Classes in other MMOs). You have Soldiers which are Guardian and Warrior, Adventurers which are Engineer, Ranger and Thief and Scholars which are Elementalist, Mesmer and Necromancer. Only five of these are from the original Guild Wars and I’m excited to see what the other classes involve. However, GW2 did away with your typical class stereotype such as Tank, DPS and Healer. I am very curious… Apparently, every class has one heal skill slot and that is all you get. I prefer being DPS in most MMOs, though I’ve enjoyed tanking and healing both in the past. I do wonder what a dungeon run and PvP is like without your typical roles and it’ll be interesting to see how teamwork is handled.

Those are my thoughts on Guild Wars 2. Do you have the game? Are you excited for Guild Wars 2 if you don’t?

The Girl With The Blue Hair /2013/01/03/the-girl-with-the-blue-hair/ /2013/01/03/the-girl-with-the-blue-hair/#comments Fri, 04 Jan 2013 01:25:01 +0000 /?p=1832 Hi, everyone! How are you enjoying The Geektastics so far?
When I first started getting into anime, I watched three series: Trigun, InuYasha and Neon Genesis Evangelion. When I watched NGE I fell in love with the character Rei Ayanami. She was so different, and her story was so interesting. Even before I knew what cosplay was… I wanted to cosplay as her. I especially wanted blue hair.

Back when I was sixteen or so, I had my sister pick me up temporary blue hair dye and started coating my brunette tresses with the mixture. I sat down at my computer and started chatting with Jen, as this was when we were still long distance, and started getting dizzy… Than a headache… Than my head started feeling heavy and I realized the dye was more like cement! I told Jen and she urged me to wash the dye out, which I quickly did. All that was left was… my normal mousy brown hair!

I didn’t try blue dye after that.

December of 2012, our sisters sent us a Wal-Mart gift card and as Jen and I were browsing the shampoo and conditioner aisle, I saw SPLAT Hair Color… in Blue Envy. I’ve been dyeing my hair for years now, and this was permanent dye, so I decided… Why not? On December 31st, I spent a good hour with bleach on my black hair, than I put in the Blue Envy. Result? Perfection.

Jen said I look adorable, and I LOVE IT. I’ll probably pick up another box of Blue Envy when I have more money, for an even bolder look. I now channel miss Ayanami and I couldn’t be happier.

Star Wars: The Old Republic /2013/01/02/swtor/ /2013/01/02/swtor/#comments Wed, 02 Jan 2013 00:00:26 +0000 /?p=1490 Long ago (2006-ish), I received a little bit of birthday money from my parents. I couldn’t decide what I’d do with my money, and asked my girlfriend (now wife) Jen for advice. She recommended a Xbox (ah, good ol’ original Xbox) and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Well, my family was never into sci-fi, so I literally knew nothing about Star Wars… But Jen and I are so very much alike, and I love RPGs, so I went with her suggestion.

I instantly fell in love with KotOR. I played day and night, for hours, fully immersed in my Jedi and her storyline. Jen and I would chat via TeamSpeak while we both played. Such fun memories! I also watched all of the Star Wars movies, fell in love with Wookipedia and even received a lightsaber from Jen as a gift. *grin* (And a few years ago, we each bought a Force FX Lightsaber… We no longer have them, but desperately want a new one each!) Anyway! I became a Star Wars fan and fell in love with sci-fi. When we finished KotOR, we wished there was a Knights of The Old Republic MMO… and we wished and we waited. Of course, there was Star Wars Galaxies, which we did try… we weren’t impressed, but this was years after SWG started and even its most loyal members fading. Finally, there was an announcement! Star Wars: The Old Republic, a MMORPG based after Knights of the Old Republic. WHAT?! YES!

Jen and I had gotten into the beta, with little luck. The lag was beyond awful and we hated the camera movement. On December 5th, we heard that SW:TOR was Free-2-Play, up until level 50, which is the current max level. We decided we’d give SW:TOR another go, downloaded the client, installed and… Fell in love.

Even on medium graphic setting, SW:TOR is beautiful. The storyline is fantastic, and I love love love how you can choose what your character will say. It’s so intense! I have two characters right now, all Empire because I have a passion for the dark side of the Force. First is my Human: Imperial Agent | Sniper:

Angie's Imperial Agent

Next is my Human: Sith Warrior | Juggernaut:

SithWarriorJuggernaut
Jen and I are on The Ebon Hawk server, which is a Role-Playing server. I’ve found wonderful RP, especially in cantina’s and random RP is abundant. I was walking around Dromund Kaas on my Sniper and had someone compliment her rifle and strike up a convo. Except a lot more about SW:TOR on We’re That Geeky! We’ve only just begun. *grin*

Angie and Jen’s Introduction /2012/10/14/angie-and-jens-introduction/ /2012/10/14/angie-and-jens-introduction/#comments Sun, 14 Oct 2012 01:23:11 +0000 /?p=808 Hi, everyone! I’m Angie, and I’ll be posting mine and Jen’s introduction. I hope you enjoy!

Let’s first introduce our blog. We’re That Geeky is starting… right now! You’re viewing our very first post. Exciting, huh? I came up with We’re That Geeky based on a popular gaming acronym “WTG” meaning “Way To Go.” This little blog of ours will be a mix of everything from geek chic clothing, video game viewing, collection posts (we collect everything from LEGO and Mega Bloks sets to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic figurines. My latest purchase was a Cortana light up figurine for my desk!) and so much more. I’ve also been working on a web comic, but no promises. *grin*

Now, a little bit about us!

I’m 23 and I was born and raised in Chicago, IL where I lived until I was 18. Jen and I met online, on a Harry Potter forum, and became best friends and started a long distance relationship. We knew we were soul mates from the very start. When I was 16, Jen proposed and I said “YES!” and finally, when I was 18, I flew here, moved in that very same night and Jen and I married less than a month later on September 13th, 2007. I’m a very proud wife. *grin* Outside of being a wife, I’m a gamer and a geek (I hope that is obvious!) and an artist; I’m a fur and feather momma, a blogger, a girl with a passion for fashion and make-up, a shopaholic and a hobbyist. I love everything nature related, new age and gothic – as well as vampiric. I’m definitely a mix and I love that!

Jen is 26 and she was born and raised in Salt Lake City, UT where we both currently live. She is also a gamer and a geek, in fact right now she’s on a Flight Simulator game and before that, we were playing World of Warcraft! She enjoys building that perfect LEGO or Mega Bloks set, watching MLP:FiM whenever she can (and playing the music too, which is amazing) and creating the perfect outfit. She is extremely fashionable, both within the geek chic label and others. She’s currently excited for the season premier of The Walking Dead, is learning how to play an Ocarina and cannot wait until Halloween – she’s going as Princess Daisy! (I’ll be Princess Peach!)

Together, we make up We’re That Geeky!

Outside of us, we have two kitties named Wedge Catilles and Darth Mau, as well as three birds: Jango Peck, Leia Skyflyer and Bastila Chirp. They’re all named after our favorite Star Wars characters. *wink*

Our list of interests and hobbies is long and constantly growing, so expect a LOT from us after January 1st. We cannot wait until then! See you later and I hope you’ve enjoyed getting to meet us and our little family. ♥

~ Angie
